Garden of Dead Calves

This series began as studies of the embryo and foetal specimens at the Hunterian Museum and the Grant Museum of Zoology in London. The specimens carry a strange quality, as if they were suspended in an eternal delivery room and an eternal morgue at once, and we can observe both states coexisting in them. Over time, the series developed into an ongoing reflection on the female body, maternity, vulnerability, and the duality of life and death. The drawings include confused pregnant women, a postpartum pubic bone repaired with ribbons, a frightened foetus, a newborn calf unable to stand, and more.
The Grant Museum of Zoology
